Special Education Teacher | Mentor, Ohio

Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting young learners as a Special Education Teacher in a K-2 self-contained classroom. This full-time position focuses primarily on 2nd-grade students, including several who are nonverbal. You will play an essential role in guiding and nurturing students with multiple disabilities, helping them grow both academically and personally.

Key Qualifications:

• Valid Special Education Teaching certification appropriate for K-2 student populations
• Prior experience teaching or supporting students with moderate to intensive needs, especially those who are nonverbal
• Familiarity with creating and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
• Ability to adapt curriculum, classroom activities, and communication methods to meet diverse student needs
• Compassionate, patient, and able to build strong relationships with students and their families
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Comfortable working collaboratively with classroom support staff, therapists, and administration

Key Responsibilities:

• Teach all core subjects to students in a self-contained K-2 class, prioritizing differentiated instruction
• Develop, modify, and implement individualized lesson plans tailored to each student's strengths and needs
• Utilize augmentative and alternative communication strategies for nonverbal learners
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for IEPs, progress reports, and parent communications
• Foster an inclusive, supportive, and structured learning environment
• Collaborate actively with paraprofessionals, therapists, and other specialists to support holistic student development
• Engage families and guardians as partners in their children's education and progress
