Special Education Teacher - Mesquite, TX

In this contract position, you’ll support students in one of two settings: a life skills classroom, autism classroom, or behavior classroom at a welcoming elementary school. Choose your preferred caseload—whether guiding learners in a self-contained TLC/Total Language Classroom (with engaging small group learning and opportunities for social interaction in activities such as Art and PE), or modifying curriculums and supporting diverse needs in a CORE academic setting. Both placements offer you the chance to make lasting connections and support students’ unique learning journeys.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program
• Valid Texas Special Education (EC-12) teaching certificate required
• Fingerprint clearance through TEA (must be completed if not done for a previous public school district)
• Experience supporting students with significant or diverse learning needs is highly valued
• Strong communication and collaboration skills

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
• Modify curriculum content and instructional strategies to support each learner’s needs
• Foster a classroom environment that supports positive behavior, communication, and independence
• Collaborate closely with colleagues, families, and support staff
• Monitor student progress and document outcomes regularly
• Create a safe and engaging learning space
