Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid teaching certification in Special Education
- Experience working with elementary-aged students in a special education or life skills classroom
- Strong understanding of individualized education plans (IEPs) and their implementation
- Ability to use evidence-based instructional strategies for diverse learner needs
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with colleagues, students, and families
- Patience, empathy, and commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive classroom environment
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver lessons and activities adapted to students’ individual abilities and educational goals
- Manage a classroom dedicated to life skills development, focusing on functional academics, communication, and social-emotional growth
- Create and maintain documentation, including progress reports and updates for IEP meetings
- Collaborate closely with speech, occupational, and physical therapists, as well as general education teachers and support staff
- Engage families in students’ learning processes, providing regular updates and resources for at-home support
- Foster a safe, supportive environment that encourages independence and confidence
