Special Education Teacher - Montpelier, VT

Desired Experience and Qualifications:

• Current Special Education Certification
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Special Education or a related field
• Experience working with students who have a variety of learning, emotional, or physical challenges
• Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
• Strong communication skills for engaging with students, parents, and multidisciplinary teams
• Flexibility, patience, and resourcefulness in adapting to student needs
• Familiarity with assistive technologies and adaptive materials is a plus

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and deliver individualized lessons based on students’ abilities and IEP goals
• Assess students’ progress and adapt teaching strategies as necessary
• Establish an inclusive, positive classroom atmosphere that leverages each child’s strengths
• Work closely with general education teachers, therapists, and support staff to coordinate services
• Maintain timely, accurate records and document student progress
• Provide guidance to students on adaptive skills, social development, and coping strategies
• Communicate regularly with parents or guardians regarding student growth
