Step into a dynamic teaching environment as a Special Education Teacher supporting elementary-aged students in a self-contained autism program for a maternity leave contract. This role spans from 8/13/26 to 11/9/26 and focuses on guiding 3rd through 5th graders in a nurturing, structured setting designed to foster growth, learning, and independence. You’ll work closely with a collaborative team, enjoy a consistent Monday through Friday schedule, and make a meaningful difference for a dedicated caseload of nine students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead instruction and daily routines for a self-contained class serving students with autism spectrum disorders
  • Develop and adapt individualized education plans (IEPs), setting attainable, measurable goals
  • Employ evidence-based teaching methodologies tailored to each student
  • Collaborate with related service providers and general education staff to support student success
  • Monitor student progress and communicate regularly with families and team members
  • Create a safe, structured, and inclusive classroom environment

Desired Qualifications:

  • Valid Learning Behavior Specialist I (LBS-I) licensure in the State of Illinois
  • Prior experience teaching students with autism, preferably in a self-contained autism program
  • Strong classroom management skills and familiarity with IEP processes
  • Adaptability, patience, and commitment to inclusive education
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

In this contract role, you can expect a highly competitive hourly rate of $40-$55, commensurate with your experience and qualifications.
