Take the lead in an Affective Needs special education classroom designed to provide a supportive, individualized learning environment for a small group of four students in 2nd and 3rd grades, some of whom exhibit autism spectrum behaviors. You'll work closely with two dedicated paraprofessionals, ensuring each child receives personalized instruction and support.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Colorado special education certification required
- Experience teaching elementary-aged students with diverse learning needs, especially those with affective or behavioral challenges
- Strong understanding of autism spectrum behaviors and best practices for support
- Ability to collaborate effectively with paraprofessionals, related service providers, and families
- Skilled in implementing IEPs and progress monitoring
- Enthusiasm for fostering social-emotional growth alongside academic achievement
Responsibilities:
- Manage an affective needs classroom for four students, focusing on creating a positive, structured, and inclusive environment
- Develop and adapt lesson plans tailored to individual student goals and abilities
- Implement behavioral strategies and supports to encourage self-regulation and successful participation
- Collaborate regularly with paraprofessionals, providing guidance and mentorship
- Track and document student progress, contributing to IEP meetings and parent communications
- Work closely with the broader school team to support student transitions and inclusion opportunities
