Special Education Teacher in Newark, NJ

Make a difference in the life of a student as a Special Education Teacher providing in-person, one-on-one instruction. Support a learner near Newark, NJ, who previously participated in an autism program and uses a communication device. This contract opportunity is for approximately 10 hours per week, focusing on targeted instruction and helping the student achieve their IEP goals and objectives.

What we’re seeking:

• Valid Special Education Teacher certification
• Experience working 1:1 with students, ideally within autism programs
• Proficiency or willingness to learn use of augmentative/alternative communication (AAC) devices
• Comfort developing and instructing toward IEP goals and measuring academic and behavioral progress
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with families, therapists, and school staff
• Ability to deliver in-person instruction safely and effectively
• Flexibility to work 10 hours per week on a set schedule

Role responsibilities:

• Plan and implement individualized instruction aligned to the student’s IEP
• Encourage and facilitate the use of a communication device for learning and interaction
• Track student progress and regularly update goals in collaboration with related service providers
• Provide positive behavioral supports as needed
• Maintain accurate records of instructional activities and achievements
• Cultivate a supportive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
