Special Education Teacher in Newark, NJ

This position runs from January 4, 2027, through March 25, 2027, with a daily commitment of 6.5 hours plus an hour for an unpaid lunch. You’ll collaborate within a dedicated support network, applying best practices to maximize learning potential for each student.

Qualifications:

• Valid TOSD (Teacher of Students with Disabilities) or TOH (Teacher of the Handicapped) certification required
• Experience teaching in self-contained special education settings preferred
• Strong understanding of autism spectrum disorders and strategies for non-verbal communication
• Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
• Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills

Key Responsibilities:

• delivering differentiated instruction tailored to non-verbal learners in grades 3-5
• Creating and adapting lesson plans utilizing evidence-based strategies for students with autism
• Managing a positive, supportive, and structured classroom environment
• Collaborating with related service providers, families, and fellow educators
• Developing and monitoring student progress toward IEP goals
