Make a meaningful difference in the lives of high school students by serving as both an Athletic Trainer and Special Education Teacher for grades 9-12. This full-time, contract assignment spans the entire school year and offers the unique opportunity to blend academic support with athletic care in a vibrant high school atmosphere near Newport News, VA.

Ideal candidates bring expertise in special education strategies for adolescents, as well as the hands-on skills to support student-athletes’ physical health. You’ll collaborate with educators, coaches, and families to foster a safe, inclusive, and dynamic learning and athletic environment.

Desired Qualifications:

• Current teaching certification in Special Education (Grades 9-12)
• Credentials or certification as an Athletic Trainer
• Previous experience in a high school or secondary education setting preferred
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
• Commitment to promoting a positive, supportive school climate for all students

Primary Responsibilities:

• Deliver tailored instruction and modify curriculum for students with a variety of learning needs
• Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with staff and families
• Assess student progress toward educational goals and adjust interventions as needed
• Provide injury prevention, assessment, and rehabilitative care to high school athletes
• Attend practices, games, and school events to oversee student-athlete health and respond to injuries
• Maintain accurate records related to both special education services and athletic training responsibilities
