Special Education Teacher - Newton, North Carolina

Two contract opportunities are currently available for Special Education Teachers: one opening focuses on high school resource services, while the second serves an adaptive, self-contained classroom at a separate public school.

Key Qualifications

• Valid Special Education teaching certification (or eligibility) for the state
• Experience with inclusion and pull-out models of instruction
• Knowledge of Standard Course of Study and Extended Content Standards
• Confidence managing diverse caseloads
• Compassion for students with cognitive disabilities and medical needs
• Collaborative mindset to work with teacher assistants, therapists, and nursing staff
• Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills

Responsibilities

• For the high school resource role: Serve a caseload of approximately 30 students, primarily through inclusion services and some pull-out as needed
• Design and implement lessons aligned to Standard Course of Study objectives
• For the adaptive classroom: Deliver small-group instruction to students with significant cognitive disabilities; ensure lessons align with Extended Content Standards
• Collaborate closely with support professionals (assistants, therapists, nurses) to address student needs
• Foster an inclusive, supportive classroom environment
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to IEP development and progress monitoring
• Communicate regularly with families, colleagues, and administration
