Position Overview

Soliant Education is seeking two qualified Special Education Teachers for immediate openings at a middle school in Norwalk, Connecticut, for the 2026–2027 school year. Both positions provide an opportunity to support students with individualized academic needs while collaborating with school staff to promote meaningful educational progress. Candidates must hold a Connecticut special education certification or be eligible to obtain certification in Connecticut.

6th Grade Special Education Teacher

The first opening supports 6th grade students in English Language Arts, specialized reading, mathematics, and specialized math instruction. The ideal educator will have experience with reading intervention programs such as SPIRE, Wilson, Orton-Gillingham, or comparable structured literacy approaches. This position requires strong instructional skills, the ability to adapt curriculum, and a commitment to helping students build academic independence.

Academic Assistance Teacher, Grades 6–8

The second opening serves students in grades 6–8 through an academic assistance and resource-style setting. This educator will focus on executive functioning goals and objectives while providing additional support in students’ core academic subjects. The successful candidate should be comfortable helping learners strengthen organization, time management, study strategies, self-advocacy, and other skills that contribute to classroom success.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized instruction and academic support based on student needs and individualized education plans.

• Adapt lessons, assignments, and instructional materials to promote student understanding and participation.

• Monitor academic progress and document student performance as required.

• Support executive functioning, organization, study skills, and independent learning strategies when applicable.

• Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, administrators, and families.

• Participate in meetings and contribute to the development and implementation of student plans.

• Maintain an organized, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.

Requirements

• Connecticut special education certification or eligibility for certification in Connecticut is required.

• Appropriate teaching credentials must be in place or obtainable for the position.

• Experience working with middle school students is preferred.

• Background in specialized reading instruction is strongly preferred for the 6th grade position.

• Familiarity with SPIRE, Wilson, Orton-Gillingham, or similar literacy interventions is a plus.

• Strong communication, organization, collaboration, and classroom management skills are expected.

• Candidates should be prepared to work onsite Monday through Friday.

Compensation And Benefits

The pay range for these positions is $38.33–$54.62 per hour, with the final rate based on qualifications, experience, and applicable credentials. This is a full-time contract opportunity through Soliant Education for the 2026–2027 school year, with a schedule of approximately 35–37.5 hours per week.
