You'll work in a self-contained classroom environment, supporting grades 6-8, and play a key role in helping students develop essential life and academic skills. Your expertise in Special Education will be invaluable as you create personalized supports, foster independence, and help students achieve their goals.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Valid certification/licensure as a Special Education Teacher (or eligibility)
- Previous classroom experience, ideally working with middle school students in a Life Skills or special education setting
- Strong knowledge of current special education practices, especially developing and monitoring Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Ability to create a supportive, engaging environment tailored to a variety of learning needs
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams
Responsibilities:
- Teach and support students in a self-contained middle school Life Skills classroom, focusing on academic, social, and independent living skills
- Develop, implement, and regularly update IEPs, collaborating with staff and families to ensure compliance and optimal student progress
- Utilize differentiated instruction and individualized strategies to meet each student’s needs
- Track student growth, prepare progress reports, and participate in annual IEP meetings
- Foster a positive, inclusive classroom climate that celebrates diversity
