Make a positive impact as a Special Education Teacher supporting middle and high school learners in a dynamic setting near Mansfield, Connecticut. This contract opportunity involves both resource and self-contained classes, with an emphasis on English Language Arts and Mathematics. Collaborate with a fellow educator to help shape the academic journeys of a shared caseload of approximately 30 students. You’ll handle core responsibilities such as developing and managing IEPs, conducting student assessments, monitoring goal progress, and representing your students in IEP meetings.
This role begins with a four-week contingent or Fall Semester probationary term, with renewal based on demonstrated performance and effective teamwork. The schedule is family-friendly, running Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM – 2:30 PM, and includes a dedicated daily planning period. Professional development is strongly encouraged—the school hosts four annual development days where you can grow your skills (attendance is voluntary).
Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid Connecticut Special Education Endorsement. Candidates with a Durational Shortage Area Permit (DSAP) will also be considered.
- At least 2 years of recent teaching experience in special education.
- Demonstrated skill in writing, implementing, and tracking IEPs.
- Comfortable working with middle and high school students across resource and self-contained settings.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Case manage approximately 14–16 students within an overall caseload of 30.
- Co-lead both resource room and self-contained ELA/Math classrooms.
- Prepare and present at IEP meetings, and track data for student progress.
- Support assessments and student accommodations.
