As a Special Education Teacher in an 18–21 year old program, you’ll collaborate closely with fellow educators and dedicated paraprofessionals to provide comprehensive support to approximately 25 students. This role is based in a vibrant community setting, focused on developing vocational, daily living, and communication skills that empower students to achieve greater independence.

Key Qualifications:

  • Valid Special Education teaching license/certification
  • Experience or strong interest in working with 18–21 year old students with diverse abilities
  • Solid understanding of IEP development, implementation, and progress tracking
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Adaptability and creativity in lesson planning and group activities
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working in flexible, community-based environments

Responsibilities:

  • Foster a supportive learning environment alongside two other teachers and several paraprofessionals
  • Guide students in hands-on vocational tasks, daily living routines, and essential communication skills
  • Supervise and assist small group outings to various community locations for experiential learning
  • Track student progress and document achievements in keeping with program goals
  • Collaborate with team members to adapt instruction and interventions to student needs
  • Participate actively in team meetings and contribute to a positive, inclusive program culture
  • Manage classroom dynamics with professionalism and compassion

Position Details:

  • Student programming Monday through Thursday; Fridays dedicated to teacher preparation
  • Standard week runs 37.5 hours: 7:00 am – 3:00 pm, with a 30-minute lunch
  • Community-based, engaging setting—no dedicated prep time during student days
