Shape the future for students with special needs by taking on a contract Special Education teaching role for the 2026-2027 school year. Multiple openings are available across elementary, middle, and high school grade levels, plus opportunities in specialized Bridges classrooms within an alternative program focused on students with severe behavioral needs. Placements are focused on life skills, autism, or behavioral support.

Positions run from August 2026 through May 21, 2027, in schools throughout the Kansas City area.

Qualifications:

  • Hold an active Kansas teaching license for the specific grade level you wish to serve (required at time of placement)
  • Strong dedication to supporting students with life skills, autism, or behavioral needs
  • Experience teaching K-12 special education (desired, but not required for all positions)
  • Compassion, patience, and adaptability in dynamic classroom environments
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with colleagues, families, and administrators

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Plan and provide individualized instruction based on each student’s IEP
  • Implement evidence-based strategies aligned with life skills, autism, or behavioral interventions
  • Collect and report data on student progress to inform ongoing instruction and IEP updates
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support holistic student development
  • Foster a positive, supportive classroom environment for all learners
