Special Education Teacher in Painesville, OH

Make an impact in the lives of young learners as a Special Education Teacher, supporting a K-2 self-contained classroom for students with multiple disabilities. This full-time, contract position focuses primarily on 2nd graders, several of whom are nonverbal, fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child’s capabilities and individuality are celebrated.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Special Education or a related field
• Valid state teaching license with special education endorsement
• Experience working with students who are nonverbal or have significant cognitive and developmental disabilities
• Familiarity with alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) tools or willingness to learn
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Compassion, patience, and creativity in adapting curriculum and teaching approaches

Key Responsibilities:

• Teach and support students in a K-2 self-contained classroom setting
• Develop, implement, and adapt individualized education programs (IEPs) to meet students’ needs
• Employ diverse teaching strategies, including visual supports and assistive technologies
• Provide a structured, nurturing classroom environment that encourages engagement and growth
• Collaborate closely with paraprofessional staff, therapists, and families
• Monitor and track student progress, reporting regularly on goals and achievements
• Participate in IEP meetings and ongoing professional development opportunities
