Transition Teacher (Special Education) – ESY & 2026–2027 School Year

Position Overview

Our client is seeking a dedicated Transition Teacher to work with students ages 18–21 in a specialized transition program. The ideal candidate is passionate about preparing students with disabilities for greater independence through functional academics, life skills instruction, community-based learning, and vocational readiness.

This position begins with the Extended School Year (ESY) program and continues through the 2026–2027 Regular School Year (RSY).

Schedule

Extended School Year (ESY)

Dates: July 6, 2026 – August 14, 2026
Hours: 8:15 AM – 2:00 PM

Regular School Year (RSY)

Dates: September 4, 2026 – June 15, 2027
Hours: 8:15 AM – 3:15 PM
Typical class size: 8–10 students
Key Responsibilities
Design and deliver individualized transition instruction aligned with students' IEP goals.
Provide instruction in functional academics, life skills, and activities of daily living to prepare students for success at work, in the community, and at home.
Facilitate community-based learning experiences, including job sampling, shopping, and visits to local businesses.
Support the development and generalization of daily living, communication, social, problem-solving, and social-emotional skills.
Develop and maintain daily lesson plans.
Prepare, write, and evaluate student progress reports based on each student's IEP.
Participate in IEP meetings, staffing's, conferences, and other student-related meetings.
Foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal or Supervisor.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
New Jersey Teacher of Students with Disabilities Certification.
Preferred Experience
Minimum of 1 year of teaching experience.
Minimum of 1 year working with students with special needs.

Compensation for this position ranges from $30.97 to $50.97. Eligible candidates may also receive healthcare benefits, housing, and meals/incidentals.
