Special Education Teacher | Pittsfield, Massachusetts

In this contract role, you’ll focus on individualized learning in substantially separate classrooms for K-1st graders or 3rd-5th graders, working with students who have profound cognitive and physical disabilities. Many of your students will require support with toileting and adaptive communication, some are non-verbal, and others may be on the autism spectrum. Collaboration with dedicated Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) enhances student support for certain cases.

Ideal candidates bring a strong background in specially designed instruction and experience with applied behavior analysis. Your knowledge and compassion will shape accessible, meaningful learning for students who need you most.

Key Qualifications & Experience:

• Current Special Education Teacher certification
• Previous experience working with K-5 students in substantially separate or similar settings
• Knowledge of significant cognitive and physical disabilities
• Proficiency supporting students with communication needs (including non-verbal students)
• Experience with toileting assistance and adaptive daily living skills
• Training or familiarity with ABA principles is highly preferred
• Ability to work effectively with RBTs and support staff
• Strong commitment to fostering a supportive, inclusive environment

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement individualized education plans
• Deliver engaging, accessible instruction in a self-contained classroom
• Support students’ daily living needs, including personal care
• Collaborate closely with families, therapists, and support staff
• Collect and document data to monitor student progress
• Adapt teaching strategies for varied learning and communication styles
