Located near the vibrant Portage, MI area, this full-time contract role offers the opportunity to collaborate with dedicated colleagues while working with a manageable caseload of 12 students. Four of these students are supported in partnership with local high schools, and classroom sizes remain small, never exceeding eight students at a time based on daily attendance.
Work closely with paraeducator support in the classroom, ensuring individualized attention for every student. This environment is positive and secure; there are no physically aggressive students, allowing you to focus on each child’s educational and emotional well-being.
Desired Qualifications:
- Valid Special Education teaching certification with an Emotional Impairment endorsement
- Experience working with students with emotional or behavioral challenges strongly preferred
- Compassionate communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships
- Organized, flexible, and proactive in developing effective classroom strategies
- Dedicated to individualized instruction and collaborative teamwork
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, modify, and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for a caseload of 12 students
- Teach in a classroom setting with no more than eight students present on a given day
- Collaborate with local high schools to coordinate services for shared students
- Work alongside paraprofessional support to deliver targeted instructional and behavioral strategies
- Maintain positive, safe, and respectful learning environments tailored to each student’s needs
