Grades K - 5 Certified Special Education Teacher in Poughkeepsie, NY

Key qualifications:

• Valid NY State Special Education Teacher Certification for relevant grade levels (K–5, 6–8, 9–12)
• Master's degree in Education
• Experience in teaching students with varying needs, including verbal and non-verbal communication
• Background in positive behavior support with strong classroom management skills
• Skilled in fostering inclusive classroom environments for students with developmental and behavioral challenges

Core responsibilities:

• Deliver individualized and evidence-based instruction to classes of 6–8 students, supported by three dedicated staff members
• Adapt lessons to accommodate students ranging from preschool through third grade as well as those ages 12–22, ensuring all learning styles and abilities are addressed
• Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams
• Establish clear routines and consistent supports for students with social, emotional, or behavioral challenges
• Maintain close communication with families, support personnel, and administrators to monitor and support student progress
• Contribute to a safe, nurturing classroom by providing structure and positive reinforcement

Role details:

• Full-time, 35 hours per week (either 8:30–4:00 or 8:00–3:30 schedules)
• Opportunity to participate in a 6-week summer program
• Start date is flexible pending completion of background checks; position extends through 6/26/2026
