Elementary Middle School Special Education Teacher in Poughkeepsie, NY

A full-time Special Education teaching position is available in Poughkeepsie, NY, starting June 26, 2026, following completion of background clearances. This contract role offers 35 hours per week with responsibilities spanning Early Childhood through High School levels, serving a diverse range of student needs.

Responsibilities include:

• Delivering specialized instruction to students with varying abilities, including verbal and non-verbal communication levels
• Managing caseloads comprising classes of up to 12 students with appropriate support staff ratios (e.g., 1 teacher to 8 students with 3 additional staff)
• Collaborating with trained staff to address behavioral challenges in the classroom
• Designing individualized education plans (IEPs) and monitoring student progress
• Participating in ongoing professional development and team meetings to optimize learning outcomes

Qualifications:

• NY State Special Education Teaching Certification valid for appropriate grade levels
• Master’s degree in Education or related field
• Experience working with students with behavioral and developmental differences
• Ability to implement effective classroom management techniques and behavior supports
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment
