Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting diverse learners in a dynamic educational setting near Poughkeepsie, NY. This role focuses on delivering high-quality special education instruction at the early childhood, elementary, middle, and high school levels, with full-time hours totaling 35 per week. The assignment begins after completion of background checks and runs through June 26, 2026, with a summer program available for an additional six weeks.

Ideal candidates bring expertise in individualized instructional strategies, a passion for fostering growth in students of varying abilities, and adaptability across different classroom environments. You’ll have the chance to make a significant impact while working with small class sizes—from six to twelve students per class—supported by a cohesive team. Classrooms include students at different developmental levels, both verbal and non-verbal, including those with behavioral needs. Onsite staff are fully trained in behavior management techniques.

Qualifications:

  • Valid NY State Special Education Teaching Certification in the relevant grade levels
  • Master’s degree in Education
  • Experience teaching early childhood, elementary, middle, or high school special education preferred
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Comfortable working with both verbal and non-verbal students, including those with behavioral challenges
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with support staff and other professionals

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Adapt curriculum materials to meet students’ varied needs
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment
  • Work closely with paraprofessionals and additional classroom staff
  • Monitor student progress and communicate with families and colleagues
