High School Middle School Special Education Teacher - Poughkeepsie, NY

This full-time, contract role begins after background clearances and extends through June 26, 2026, with opportunities to participate in a rewarding six-week summer program. The position is dedicated to working with classes at the early childhood, elementary, middle, and high school levels, providing special education services to students with a range of communication and behavioral needs.

Key Qualifications:

• Holds current New York State Special Education Teacher certification for relevant grade levels
• Master’s degree in education required
• Experienced in working with students with varying abilities, including those who are verbal and non-verbal
• Comfortable supporting students with behavioral needs
• Strong classroom management and collaborative skills
• Ability to adapt instructional approaches for individualized student growth

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provide direct instruction and support to students in small classroom settings (class sizes range from 6 to 12)
• Collaborate with additional staff (up to three assistants per class) for optimal student engagement and safety
• Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
• Adjust teaching strategies to accommodate each student’s unique learning needs
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and structured classroom environment
• Participate in ongoing professional training related to behavior management and best practices in special education

Role Details:

• Contract position, full-time at 35 hours per week
• Caseloads with a maximum class size of 12 students
