This contract opportunity offers the chance to work in a respected district near Providence, serving as a Special Education Teacher in either a resource/inclusion or self-contained classroom, depending on the current need. You’ll collaborate closely with faculty, contribute innovative ideas, and guide elementary-age students as they develop essential academic and life skills.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Hold a valid Rhode Island Department of Education Special Education license for Early Childhood, Elementary, or Secondary (as appropriate for assignment)
  • Ability to obtain or already possess Rhode Island Structured Literacy proficiency (compliance with the Right to Read Act, must complete within one year if not already certified)
  • Strong commitment to fostering a supportive, inclusive classroom climate
  • Proven record of successfully working with students with mild-to-moderate disabilities, or with students in a self-contained setting
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Adaptability and a creative approach to student engagement

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver individualized and small-group instruction, adapting lessons to meet each IEP
  • Develop and implement IEPs in collaboration with parents and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Assist students in accessing the general curriculum and building critical skills for daily life
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide ongoing communication with families and staff
  • Foster an environment that encourages independence and confidence among students
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and support student achievement
