With just 78 students across 10 self-contained classrooms (8:1:3 ratios), every educator's skills are noticed and celebrated. This school supports students ranging from grades 6 through 12+, including level 3 autism spectrum, severe cognitive disabilities, severe behaviors, and many who are non-verbal and use alternative communication methods.

As a special education expert, you’ll have the option to work with secondary (high school/adult) pre-vocational students or focus more academically in a middle school classroom. Each day runs from 7:45 am to 3:15 pm, Monday through Friday, with up to 40 hours per week approved for those committing extra time to IEPs, paperwork, or additional planning.

Qualifications:

  • New York State certification in Special Education (Students with Disabilities) or currently working toward NY licensure
  • Open to bachelor’s prepared teachers, but master’s level highly preferred
  • Recent graduates with a relevant degree or out-of-state licensure are encouraged—school offers flexibility for transferring licenses
  • Strongly preferred: Experience with severe cognitive disabilities, level 3 autism, challenging behaviors, and alternative communication/medical needs
  • Additional experience with alternative assessments and curriculum modification is highly advantageous
