Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting students with diverse educational needs in a self-contained environment. This role centers on delivering specialized education to either middle school or high school/adult learners in a dedicated private program serving students with level 3 autism, severe cognitive and behavioral disabilities, and many utilizing alternative communication methods. With a focused student population of 78 across 10 classrooms, each room maintains a supportive 8:1:3 staff-to-student ratio, providing a collaborative and resource-rich setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver tailored instruction, adapting and modifying curriculum to match individual student needs.
  • Implement alternative assessments; monitor, document, and report on student progress.
  • Develop and update IEPs, ensuring all goals are met and compliance maintained.
  • Participate in team meetings, contribute to classroom planning, and engage with multidisciplinary support staff.
  • Foster a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment that addresses behavioral and communication challenges.
  • Communicate regularly with caregivers and colleagues to provide updates and gather input on educational strategies.

Desired Experience & Qualifications:

  • Valid (or in-process) NY State Special Education Certification (Students with Disabilities). Candidates with relevant out-of-state certification or recent master’s graduates encouraged to apply.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree strongly preferred.
  • Direct experience with level 3 autism, severe behavioral needs, alternative communication systems, or significant medical needs is highly valued.
  • Skilled in developing alternative assessments and modifying instructional material for a range of learning profiles.

Role Details:

  • Full-time, Monday–Friday, 7:45 am–3:15 pm. Additional time (up to 40 hours/week) available for preparation and paperwork outside of scheduled class hours.
  • Immediate start through the end of the school year.
