Take on a meaningful contract opportunity working with middle school students as a Special Education Teacher for grades 6 through 8. Located near Rockville, MD, you'll serve as a long-term substitute covering a leave in a self-contained Stride program classroom. The estimated assignment is 8–12 weeks (from the end of August through October, with possible extension depending on circumstances), and you’ll engage with students who have a range of abilities, including both low and high-functioning autism and possible learning disabilities.

What you’ll bring:

  • Current Maryland Special Education Certification (minimum for grades 6–12); conditional certifications accepted
  • At least 2 years of prior experience in Special Education, preferably working with middle school students
  • Knowledge and understanding of strategies for individualized instruction, behavior management, and progress monitoring
  • Strong collaboration skills with other educators and support staff
  • Compassion for students with diverse needs and the creativity to cultivate a supportive learning environment

Your key responsibilities:

  • Deliver core academic and life skills instruction to a caseload of up to 8 students in a self-contained classroom
  • Implement IEP goals and adapt lessons to meet a variety of learning profiles
  • Manage classroom behavior using evidence-based techniques and positive supports
  • Track and report student progress, collaborating with families and staff to ensure program success
  • Foster a safe, nurturing space for students with both low and high-functioning autism as well as learning disabilities
