Job Type Contract

Step into a rewarding contract opportunity as a Special Education Teacher serving upper school students in the North Austin area. In this role, you’ll work with a caseload of 25 to 30 students in grades 6-12, focusing primarily on Integrated Humanities/English Language Arts and Social/Life Skills within a resource inclusion setting. The classroom is spacious, featuring a partition shared with a math class for part of the day, and you’ll collaborate with dedicated paraprofessionals who assist with student transitions.

Your main objective will be fostering academic growth, independence, and social skills for students with diverse learning needs. The school provides the curriculum, and structured planning time is set aside weekly—both individually and collaboratively with colleagues. Life Skills duties are light, involving just a handful of students, with cross-support from team members during those blocks. Experience in ARD meetings is essential—you’ll attend and actively contribute to team decision-making for student success.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Hold a valid Texas Department of Education License in Special Education and Generalist/Core Subjects 6-12.
  • Prior experience with Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) processes.
  • Strong communication skills and an inclusive, collaborative teaching approach.
  • Ability to support students working across varying academic levels.
  • Adherence to professional dress code standards to foster school community equity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging, standards-based instruction in ELA, Humanities, and Life Skills.
  • Collaborate with paraprofessionals and fellow teachers for student support.
  • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and contribute in ARD meetings.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and structured classroom environment.
  • Participate in regular planning sessions to enhance student learning outcomes.

Perks and Pay: Enjoy a competitive hourly pay range of $38–$43, comprehensive health benefits (medical, dental, and vision), and a 401(k) option through Principal Financial.
