Step into a pivotal leadership role within a supportive K-8 school setting, serving as the Intensive Learning Community Lead Teacher. This contract position runs from August 3, 2026, to June 4, 2027, offering 37.5 hours per week at a single school site near Rowe, NM. In this dynamic environment, you'll provide specialized instruction and guidance for up to 10 students in a self-contained classroom for children with significant disabilities and complex support needs.
As the lead educator, you'll oversee 2-3 dedicated classroom aides, ensuring students—many with autism—receive individualized support in communication, social skills, behavior, adaptive functioning, academics, and motor skills. Some learners will use AAC devices and benefit from your expertise in building structured, nurturing routines.
Desired Experience and Qualifications:
- Certified Special Education Teacher with experience in K-8 settings
- Deep understanding of autism spectrum disorders and significant support needs
- Familiarity with communication supports, including AAC devices
- Proven ability to create a structured, predictable, and compassionate classroom environment
- Strong collaboration skills to lead and mentor paraprofessional staff
- Facility with data collection and progress monitoring documentation
- Flexible and solution-oriented approach in response to daily challenges
