Step into a meaningful role guiding K-8 students with significant disabilities as the Intensive Learning Community Lead Teacher at a single site school near Santa Fe, NM. This contract position begins August 3, 2026, and concludes June 4, 2027, offering 37.5 hours per week in a self-contained classroom. You'll lead a small team, overseeing 2-3 classroom aides and working closely with up to ten students who require substantial, highly individualized support.

Ideal candidates are empathetic, organized, and passionate about creating nurturing, structured learning environments. Your classroom will support students with autism who need interventions in communication, social skills, behavior, adaptive and academic skills, and motor skills. Some students may have limited verbal abilities and benefit from AAC devices.

What you’ll need:

  • Experience as a Special Education Teacher in self-contained settings, preferably with K-8 students
  • Strong leadership skills to guide, motivate, and support classroom aides
  • Knowledge of best practices for working with students with significant disabilities, including use of AAC devices and adaptive technology
  • Patience, flexibility, and the ability to adapt plans to meet diverse needs
  • Experience developing and maintaining classroom routines, structure, and positive behavior supports
  • Ability to build relationships with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams

Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and modeling effective classroom management and instructional strategies
  • Collaborating with aides to implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Utilizing AAC devices and augmentative strategies to support non-verbal or minimally verbal students
  • Creating and maintaining a classroom environment rooted in consistency and clear expectations
  • Monitoring student progress and making data-driven instructional decisions
