Special Education Teacher - Saratoga Springs, NY

A Special Education teaching opportunity is available at a specialized private school serving students with significant needs in a fully onsite setting in Saratoga Springs, NY. This position supports a self-contained environment with classrooms structured around an 8:1:3 student-to-teacher-to-aide ratio. The school serves 78 students across 10 classrooms, focusing on level 3 autism, severe cognitive disabilities, and behavioral challenges. Many students use alternative communication methods and are non-verbal, requiring skilled and compassionate educators.

Openings include:

• Secondary Special Education Teacher (High School/Adult): Working with pre-vocational students up to adult age.
• Intermediate Special Education Teacher (Middle School): Supporting academically focused students with some pre-vocational needs.

Schedule and contract details:

• Hours are 7:45 AM to 3:15 PM, Monday through Friday.
• No dedicated planning periods, but teachers who come early or stay late will have time approved up to 40 hours per week for paperwork, IEPs, and lesson planning.
• Contract runs ASAP through end of the school year (EOSY).

Qualifications:

• Must hold a valid New York State Special Education (Students with Disabilities) teaching license.
• Bachelor's degree candidates considered; however, a master’s degree is strongly preferred.
• Experience with level 3 autism, severe behaviors, alternative communication methods, or medical needs is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with alternative assessments and curriculum modification is ideal.
