Special Education Teacher | Saratoga Springs, New York

Step into a dynamic, supportive contract position making an impact in the lives of K-12 students with a wide range of significant needs. This Special Private School, serving 78 students across 10 self-contained classrooms (8:1:3 staff-to-student ratio), is seeking dedicated educators for an immediate start, with assignments lasting through June 2027. You’ll work Monday to Friday, 7:45am–3:15pm, with approved flexibility for additional time dedicated to paperwork, IEPs, and planning. The first two weeks will be dedicated to training and onboarding to ensure you feel prepared and welcomed.

In this role, you will support students with level 3 autism, severe cognitive disabilities, severe behaviors, and those who primarily use alternative communication methods. Classrooms are deliberately matched to teacher strengths and preferences, with opportunities for collaboration and adjustment as needed.

Desired Qualifications:

• Holds (or working toward) New York State Special Education (Students with Disabilities) certification; strong consideration given to recent graduates or candidates transferring out-of-state licenses.
• Background working with students with autism spectrum disorders (particularly level 3), significant cognitive/behavioral needs, non-verbal learners, or those requiring alternative communication or medical support is highly valued.
• Experience with modifying curricula, delivering alternative assessments, and differentiating instruction preferred.
• Flexible, compassionate, and eager to collaborate within a tight-knit team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Teach and facilitate all aspects of instruction in a self-contained setting, tailoring approaches to individual learning needs.
• Complete special education documentation, IEPs, and student reports.
• Modify and adapt curriculum and strategies to promote engagement and progress.
• Collaborate closely with related services, paraprofessionals, and families.
• Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and proactive classroom environment.

Compensation for this opportunity ranges from $35 to $50 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
