Job Type Contract

Step into a rewarding contract opportunity where your expertise in special education can make a significant impact in a tight-knit educational setting. This position serves students aged middle school through high school and adult transition, all within a specialized private school focused exclusively on level 3 autism, severe behaviors, and significant cognitive disabilities. With only 78 students across 10 self-contained classrooms (8:1:3 ratio), you'll work directly with learners who benefit from tailored curricula and alternative communication methods, primarily supporting non-verbal students.

Two openings are available: one focusing on pre-vocational high school/adult-aged students and another emphasizing academic growth with middle schoolers, some of whom are developing pre-vocational skills. Your day will run from 7:45 am to 3:15 pm, Monday through Friday, with opportunities for additional paid hours to accommodate planning, IEP preparation, and necessary paperwork.

What you'll bring:

  • New York State Special Education (Students with Disabilities) certification, or an active progression toward this. Those with recent Master’s degrees or transferable out-of-state credentials are encouraged to apply—a supportive environment will assist in the licensure process.
  • Bachelor’s degree considered, but a Master’s is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with level 3 autism, severe behaviors, alternative communication, or similar environments is highly valued.
  • Competence in adapting curriculum, using alternative assessments, and providing individualized instruction according to IEP goals.
  • A compassionate approach and readiness to collaborate in high-needs, small group settings.

You’ll thrive in a school community where your specialized skills are valued and every team member’s contribution directly enriches student lives. If you are passionate about empowering students with significant needs and want to be part of an innovative, supportive environment, this is your chance. Apply now to explore this unique contract role and help shape brighter futures!

Compensation for this position ranges from $29.25 to $49.25. Eligible candidates may also receive healthcare benefits, housing, and meals/incidentals. Full details of our healthcare benefits plan can be found here. This posting is open for 60 days after the posting date.
