A rewarding opportunity is available for Special Education Teachers committed to making a profound difference in the lives of students with significant disabilities. This fully onsite position is based in Queensbury, NY, approximately 45 minutes north of Albany, serving a specialized private school environment.
The school supports 78 students across 10 self-contained classrooms, each following an 8:1:3 staff-to-student ratio. This unique setting includes level 3 autism students, individuals with severe cognitive disabilities, and those with complex behavioral challenges. Many students utilize alternative communication methods and are non-verbal, requiring dedicated, compassionate educators.
Two openings are available:
- Secondary Special Education Teacher (High School/Adult): Working with pre-vocational students, extending into adult age groups.
- Intermediate Special Education Teacher (Middle School): Focusing more on academic development alongside some pre-vocational instruction.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction tailored to students with severe disabilities and alternative communication needs.
- Develop and modify curriculum and alternative assessments to meet individual student needs.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and support staff to implement comprehensive IEPs.
- Maintain detailed documentation, including paperwork and IEP development.
Qualifications:
- New York State licensure in Special Education (Students with Disabilities) is required.
- Bachelor’s degree candidates will be considered; however, a master’s degree is strongly preferred.
- Experience with level 3 autism, severe behavioral challenges, alternative communication methods, and medical needs is highly advantageous.
- Skilled in alternative assessments and curriculum modification.
Schedule & Compensation:
- Monday through Friday, 7:45 AM to 3:15 PM.
