Bring your expertise and passion for transformative education to a specialized learning environment dedicated to students with intensive support needs. This contract opportunity, situated near Schenectady, NY, runs from July 2026 through June 2027. Educators will engage with a close-knit community of 78 students in a private setting, featuring small class sizes (8:1:3 ratio) and a focus on individualized, student-centered learning.
Openings are available for both middle and high school levels. Each classroom is fully self-contained, serving students with level 3 autism, significant cognitive disabilities, severe behavioral challenges, and many who are non-verbal or utilize alternative communication methods.
Key Qualifications:
- Possession of (or active progress toward) New York State certification in Special Education (Students with Disabilities)
- Recent graduates or those with out-of-state credentials willing to transfer are encouraged to apply
- Strong preference for applicants with experience supporting students with level 3 autism, severe behaviors, alternative communication systems, or medical/complex needs
- Demonstrated ability to deliver alternative assessments and adapt core curriculum materials to individual student needs
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality instruction, assessment, and behavior support in self-contained classrooms
- Modify and adapt curriculum and assessment methods for individualized learning
- Manage IEP documentation and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team
- Foster a safe, respectful, and engaging classroom environment
- Participate in ongoing professional learning and school initiatives
- Approved additional time (within a 40-hour work week) for paperwork, IEP tasks, or planning before and after the regular 7:45 am–3:15 pm schedule
The compensation for this role ranges from $35 to $50 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
