Special Education Teacher in Shawnee, KS

Bring your expertise and passion for special education to a dynamic middle school setting, supporting students in an Intensive Resource program. This contract opportunity focuses on learners across grades 6th through 8th, each with unique strengths and needs stemming from intellectual disabilities, autism, other health impairments, or multiple disabilities. You’ll play a crucial role in ensuring students receive personalized instruction and support designed to foster their academic and personal growth.

What we’re seeking:

• Valid Kansas low incidence special education licensure or unified special education licensure required
• Previous experience with middle school students preferred, especially those with intensive needs
• Expertise in adapting curriculum and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs)
• Strong collaboration skills with general education teachers, paraeducators, and related service providers
• Ability to communicate effectively and compassionately with students, families, and colleagues
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and supportive classroom environment

Your responsibilities will include:

• Delivering targeted instruction to a caseload of 8 students across 6th, 7th, and 8th grades
• Developing and implementing IEPs based on student data and multidisciplinary input
• Utilizing evidence-based strategies and accommodations to address a diverse range of learning needs
• Monitoring student progress, collecting data, and making adjustments to instructional plans as needed
• Facilitating collaboration among IEP team members and maintaining regular communication with families
