Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting middle school students as a Special Education Teacher for grades 6–8 on a long-term substitute basis. This contract position offers the chance to positively impact students within a self-contained Stride program classroom, working with both low and high-functioning autism and learning disabilities. The estimated assignment is 8–12 weeks, beginning at the end of August and potentially extending longer to cover a leave.

Your classroom will provide individualized attention in a smaller setting, with a caseload capped at eight students. You’ll collaborate with school staff and families to create an inclusive, structured environment, championing academic and personal growth for every learner.

Ideal candidates will offer:

  • Current Maryland Special Education Certification (minimum grades 6–12) or eligibility for a conditional certificate
  • Passion and patience for working with neurodiverse students
  • At least 2 years of previous experience in a special education setting preferred
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Commitment to planning and delivering differentiated instruction
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new environments and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams

Key responsibilities:

  • Implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) with fidelity
  • Foster an engaging and supportive atmosphere tailored to a range of learning and behavioral needs
  • Work closely with paraprofessionals, therapists, and other specialists
  • Maintain progress documentation, communicate effectively with families, and assist with transition planning
  • Adapt instruction and interventions to help every student reach their potential
  • Participate in relevant meetings, training, and professional development

This full-time position runs Monday through Friday, requiring 40 hours per week.
