Special Education Teacher - Spotsylvania, VA

Step into a meaningful role supporting students in a self-contained elementary autism classroom. We are seeking a compassionate and driven Special Education Teacher to deliver exceptional support and instruction to elementary-aged learners diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. In this full-time, contract-based position, you’ll help make a transformative difference by delivering adaptive, individualized instruction and behavioral interventions within a structured and encouraging environment.

What You’ll Bring:

• Current Virginia Special Education Teaching License, or eligibility for licensure.
• Experience developing, writing, and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
• Knowledge of special education compliance, progress documentation, and legal requirements.
• Expertise in classroom management and applying proactive behavioral supports.
• Strong communication skills for collaborative teamwork with families and related service providers.
• Flexibility and empathy to support diverse learners’ academic, social, and life-skill growth.

Preferred Experience:

• Background working with students on the Autism Spectrum, especially in self-contained settings.
• Familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), structured teaching practices, visual supports, social stories, and augmentative or functional communication systems.
• Experience developing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and implementing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
• Training in crisis prevention or de-escalation strategies.

Your Responsibilities:

• Design and provide individualized instruction based on IEP goals using evidence-based practices.
• Develop systems for monitoring student progress and maintaining detailed compliance documentation.
• Collaborate with specialists such as speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and school psychologists.
• Oversee and support paraprofessionals assigned to your classroom.
• Maintain an engaging, safe, and supportive classroom community focused on growth and independence.
