Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting elementary students with autism in a highly specialized, self-contained classroom. As a Special Education Teacher in an elementary autism program, you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering individualized instruction and behavioral support, enabling each student to flourish academically and personally within a structured, nurturing environment.

Your expertise and compassion will empower students with varying levels of cognitive, social-emotional, communication, and adaptive needs to reach their fullest potential. Collaborate with an outstanding interdisciplinary team and guide paraprofessionals to ensure every child receives the support they deserve.

What Makes You a Strong Fit:

  • Current Virginia Special Education Teaching License or eligibility for licensure
  • Experience developing and implementing IEPs for students with disabilities
  • Solid understanding of special education compliance and documentation
  • Strong classroom management and evidence-based behavior support skills
  • Excellent collaboration with families and multidisciplinary specialists

Ideal, but not required:

  • Prior teaching experience with students on the autism spectrum
  • Background working in self-contained special education settings
  • Training in ABA principles, visual schedules, social stories, and functional communication systems
  • Experience supporting students with significant cognitive or behavioral challenges
  • Crisis prevention and de-escalation training

You Will:

  • Design and deliver instruction aligned with IEPs and state standards using proven strategies for students with autism
  • Lead the creation and implementation of positive behavior interventions and individualized behavior plans
  • Work closely with speech therapists, occupational therapists, and other service providers
  • Supervise and mentor paraprofessionals in daily classroom activities
  • Maintain a safe, engaging, and supportive learning space where communication, social skills, and independence are nurtured
