Special Education Teacher – Elementary Autism Program (Self-Contained Classroom)

School Year: 2026–2027
Schedule: Full-Time

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to support an Elementary Autism Program in a self-contained classroom setting. This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact while working with a collaborative team of educators and related service providers to support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other complex learning needs.

Position Details:

- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Provide direct instruction aligned with state standards and individualized student goals
- Utilize evidence-based instructional practices designed for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Implement positive behavior supports, behavior intervention plans (BIPs), and classroom management strategies
- Collaborate with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, psychologists, behavior specialists, and other service providers
- Supervise and support paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom
- Collect and analyze student progress data and maintain compliance documentation
- Support the development of communication, social, behavioral, self-regulation, and independent living skills
- Create and maintain a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment

Qualifications:

- Active Virginia Special Education Teaching License or eligibility for licensure required
- Experience developing and implementing IEPs
- Strong understanding of special education compliance and documentation requirements
- Effective classroom management and behavior support skills
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and families

Preferred Qualifications:

- Previous experience teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Experience in a self-contained special education classroom setting
- Knowledge of ABA principles, structured teaching, visual schedules, social stories, and functional communication systems
- Experience supporting students with significant cognitive and behavioral needs
Crisis prevention and de-escalation training preferred
