Special Education Teacher - Staten Island, NY

Embark on a rewarding journey supporting young learners as you help launch the first year of a dedicated Early Intervention (EI) program. This contract opportunity calls for a passionate Special Education Teacher ready to make a difference in the lives of children aged 2-3. With a new school transitioning from part-time to full-time staff as caseloads increase, you’ll play a vital role in shaping both student outcomes and the future of the program itself.

Responsibilities:

• Deliver individualized and group-based instruction for a class of ten early intervention students, each supported by a dedicated 1:1 teacher’s assistant
• Develop and implement IEPs to address developmental and learning needs
• Foster an engaging, nurturing, and safe classroom environment
• Collaborate closely with assistants, therapists, and families to support consistent progress
• Participate in team meetings and ongoing professional development
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation for student progress
• Adapt and modify lessons to accommodate varying abilities

Qualifications:

• Valid New York State Teaching License with Special Education Endorsement (required)
• Experience or interest in early childhood and/or early intervention
• Familiarity with individualized education plans and collaborative teaching models
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Flexibility to start with just a few hours each week, with the potential to move into a full-time (40 hour/week) schedule as the caseload grows
• Commitment to a year-long, 12-month position
