A rewarding opportunity awaits an experienced Special Education Teacher in the elementary setting, serving students in the Stevensville and Centreville, MD areas as well as surrounding communities. This full-time contract role will span the upcoming school year, from August 17, 2026, to June 18, 2027. You’ll support a self-contained classroom, utilizing proven interventions and working collaboratively to address diverse student needs.
Key qualifications:
- Active Maryland Special Education Certification
- Experience teaching in an elementary special education classroom, preferably self-contained
- Familiarity with interventions such as Read 180, iSPIRE, Bridges Program, and Orton-Gillingham approaches
- Ability to adapt instructional strategies for varied learning profiles, including students with dyslexia or learning differences
- Strong IEP development, progress monitoring, and documentation skills
- Effective communication with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams
Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized and small group instruction to elementary students within a self-contained setting
- Implement interventions (e.g., Read 180, iSPIRE, Bridges, Orton-Gillingham) as determined by student need and IEP goals
- Develop, implement, and update IEPs; participate in meetings (usually held on Tuesdays, subject to change)
- Collaborate with general education staff, specialists, and parents to maximize student progress
- Manage classroom routines, behavior interventions, and data collection
- Maintain a flexible approach with variable start and end times between 7:30 AM and 3:45 PM (Monday through Friday, 32 hours/week, 7 hours/day with a 30-minute unpaid lunch)
