Special Education Teacher - Theodore, Alabama

Step into a vital role as a Special Education Teacher and make an immediate impact supporting K–5th grade students in a self-contained classroom setting. This contract opportunity places you at an elementary school that has not had an on-site SPED teacher for three years, offering you the chance to bring meaningful change to students and staff alike. As part of a two-teacher team, you’ll work with a manageable caseload of 20 students with efforts underway to further reduce your group size. Candidates comfortable with some toileting assistance will find their skills especially helpful.

Key Qualifications:

• Valid educator certification (must be presented at interview)
• Experience teaching special education, preferably in a self-contained environment
• Strong classroom management and individualized instruction abilities
• Familiarity with K–5th grade curriculum and IEP processes
• Compassionate, reliable, and adaptable personality
• Ability to work on-site full time; travel professionals encouraged to apply

Core Responsibilities:

• Create and implement individualized lesson plans following students’ IEPs
• Provide specialized instruction and classroom support to elementary-aged students
• Collaborate with another SPED teacher to develop inclusive, supportive student groupings
• Address toileting and basic care needs when required
• Communicate progress and needs to parents and administration
• Maintain accurate documentation and compliance with all district requirements

• On-site only: 35 hours per week, 7:45 am–3:15 pm schedule
