Special Education Teacher in Thomaston, CT

Make a difference this school year supporting a dynamic group of learners in a self-contained classroom setting! An opportunity is available for a Special Education Teacher in a contract role with an immediate start, continuing through December. Work with a dedicated group of 5 students in grades 4-6, fostering academic growth and social-emotional development in a supportive, engaging environment.

Key Qualifications:

• Valid Special Education Teacher certification
• Experience working with elementary students, especially grades 4-6
• Expertise in developing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs)
• Strong classroom management skills and a nurturing, adaptable approach
• Ability to collaborate effectively with paraprofessionals, therapists, and fellow educators
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive, positive learning environment

Primary Responsibilities:

• Directly instruct a class of 5 students in a self-contained room, tailoring learning activities to meet diverse needs
• Develop and maintain IEPs, working closely with families and support staff
• Monitor student progress and adjust strategies to maximize growth and engagement
• Create a safe, structured, and caring classroom community
• Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding individual progress and classroom events
• Engage in team meetings and participate in school-based professional development

This contract position features a roughly 7-hour workday running from approximately 8:25 AM to 3:25 PM, allowing for a consistent schedule and meaningful connection with students each day.
