This opportunity focuses on working with children in grades K-5 within self-contained classrooms. You’ll be part of a collaborative team that includes paraprofessionals in each classroom, providing essential support as you address the needs of students with a range of behavioral challenges—from mild to moderate, up to moderate to severe.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid teaching certification in Special Education (or eligibility to obtain)
- Previous experience working with students in elementary grades, especially within self-contained environments, preferred
- Strong ability to manage and support classroom behavior effectively
- Knowledge of evidence-based instructional and behavioral interventions
- Excellent communication skills for collaboration with team members, paraprofessionals, and families
- Ability to create a safe, inclusive, and structured classroom atmosphere
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's goals and needs
- Provide differentiated instruction to support diverse learning styles and abilities
- Collaborate with paraprofessionals, related service providers, and other staff
- Foster a caring and supportive environment in self-contained classrooms
- Monitor and document student progress and adjust interventions as needed
- Utilize behavior management techniques to address varying levels of behavioral needs
- Engage in regular communication with families regarding student achievements and needs
