Inspire, support, and make a measurable difference as a contract Special Education Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. This role is based in a specialized private school near Troy, NY, dedicated to serving students with level 3 autism, significant cognitive and behavioral challenges, and a majority of non-verbal learners using alternative communication methods. With 78 students across 10 classrooms—all structured as self-contained 8:1:3 environments—you’ll play a vital role in fostering growth, independence, and academic progress for middle or high school students.
Hours run Monday through Friday, 7:45am–3:15pm, with approval for up to 40 hours per week for time spent outside standard hours to manage IEPs, planning, and paperwork.
Key Qualifications:
- New York State Special Education certification (Students with Disabilities) or working toward NY licensure
- Recent master’s graduates or out-of-state certified educators seeking NY certification are encouraged—school may assist with the transition
- Strongly preferred: experience with level 3 autism, severe behaviors, alternative communication methods, and working with medically complex students
- Background with alternative assessments and curriculum modification is highly valued
Core Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction to self-contained classes, adapting lessons for each learner’s needs
- Develop and implement IEPs in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team
- Utilize and model alternative communication strategies
- Address behavioral, academic, and social-emotional needs using evidence-based practices
- Complete timely documentation, maintain compliance, and proactively communicate with families
This position offers a pay range of $35–$50 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
