Step into an impactful contract opportunity guiding elementary students in a dedicated self-contained special education classroom. Work with a supportive team in an environment designed for collaboration and resources, teaching 4th and 5th grade students (7-8 per classroom) with individualized needs. This position is structured within a building where multiple self-contained elementary classrooms are located, providing a robust network for sharing expertise and receiving assistance as needed.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Illinois teaching licensure with LBSI (Learning Behavior Specialist I) endorsement
- Experience working in self-contained special education settings, preferably at the elementary level
- Familiarity with Unique Learning System or STAR curricula is highly desired
- Commitment to fostering a supportive and engaging classroom environment
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach
Primary Responsibilities:
- Plan, implement, and adapt lessons based on IEP goals and the needs of each student
- Utilize or adapt Unique Learning System, STAR, and differentiated instruction to meet individual learning objectives
- Maintain daily classroom routines and manage a positive learning environment
- Collaborate with fellow educators and support staff housed within the building
- Monitor student progress and communicate regularly with families and multidisciplinary teams
- Attend required contract hours: Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri (8:05-3:35) and Wed (8:05-3:50), inclusive of a 30-minute daily lunch
- Participate in new teacher orientation prior to the start date, if applicable
