Make a meaningful impact as a Special Education Teacher serving students in grades 2-5, where you'll support children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD). This rewarding contract opportunity awaits in a supportive learning center close to Waterbury, CT, working alongside a skilled team of five paraeducators. The current caseload is nine students, with the potential to expand by one or two.
Desired Background & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education
- Valid Special Education Teacher licensure for Connecticut
- Previous experience supporting students with ASD and SLD preferred
- Strong understanding of IEP processes and implementation
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Patience, creativity, and a positive approach to problem-solving
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students in grades 2-5
- Adapt lessons to accommodate a variety of learning differences and ensure successful inclusion
- Regularly assess student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly
- Create a supportive, inclusive classroom environment tailored to each student’s needs
- Partner closely with paraeducators and related service providers for a coordinated approach
- Maintain ongoing communication with families to foster student growth and success
- Document progress and contribute to team meetings regarding student supports and goals
