An opportunity is available for a compassionate and skilled Special Education Teacher to serve in an intensive resource classroom for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year. This classroom environment is specially designed for six elementary-aged students (grades 1-6) whose disabilities include Down syndrome and non-verbal autism. Most students utilize AAC devices to communicate and require individualized, creative instructional approaches.
You will collaborate with a dedicated team including paraprofessionals and related service providers (OT, SLP, SSW) who offer both in-class and pull-out support to meet the wide range of academic, behavioral, and self-care needs. With a favorable student-teacher ratio, you’ll have the time and resources to truly make an impact.
Desired Qualifications:
- Hold a valid Special Education teaching license (or eligibility to obtain one)
- Experience supporting students with moderate to severe disabilities
- Familiarity with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices
- Strong skills in IEP development, implementation, and progress monitoring
- Ability to build rapport and facilitate positive relationships with students, families, and team members
- Adaptability, creativity, and patience in differentiating instruction
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver individualized instruction aligned to IEP goals
- Foster a supportive, structured, and safe learning environment
- Collaborate with paraprofessionals and service providers to support students’ daily routines and therapy needs
- Collect and analyze data to track student progress and adjust instructional strategies
- Communicate regularly with families and multidisciplinary team members
