Step into a rewarding role shaping the lives of elementary students as a Special Education Teacher in a supportive, collaborative environment. In this contract position, you will lead a self-contained classroom serving 4th and 5th graders, with a manageable class size of 7–8 students. The school community offers comprehensive resources—specializing in self-contained programming—with colleagues nearby for ongoing assistance and mentorship.

You’ll be working in a modern facility designed to foster specialized instruction and teamwork among staff. Days are structured, with consistent hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:05 am to 3:35 pm, and Wednesdays until 3:50 pm, totaling a 35-hour workweek (plus daily 30-minute lunches). The assignment begins August 17, 2026, with an opportunity to participate in new teacher orientation during early August if you’re onboarded in time. Your impact will last through the end of May 2027.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Illinois LBSI Special Education certification (active or eligible)
  • Prior experience with self-contained elementary classrooms preferred
  • Familiarity with Unique Learning System or STAR curriculum is highly valued
  • Ability to skillfully differentiate instruction and manage individualized learning plans
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Heart for student growth, patience, and adaptability

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct instruction in core academic and functional skills
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Collaborate with related service providers, support staff, and families
  • Foster a positive, structured classroom community
