Special Education Teacher in Waukegan, IL

Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting elementary students as a Special Education Teacher in the North Chicago area. Take on a vital role, shaping the academic and social-emotional success of young learners in grades K-4 within a resource model classroom. As an educator, you’ll collaborate with a welcoming school community and make a meaningful difference each day.

Your schedule is full-time, Monday through Friday, totaling 35 hours a week, with dedicated break times including a daily 30-minute lunch and two 15-minute breaks. This resource-based caseload consists of 8-10 students, blending both pull-out direct instruction sessions and push-in support within general education settings. You will foster individual academic growth and nurture essential social and emotional skills, ensuring every child has the guidance and encouragement they need.

Key qualifications and experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field
• Active Illinois Professional Educator’s License (PEL) with LBS1 endorsement, or a comparable out-of-state license (refer to the ISBE Educator Licensure Information System for PEL details)
• Strong understanding of resource model instruction, IEP development, and implementation
• Experience working with elementary-aged students, particularly in resource or inclusion settings
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills

Primary responsibilities:

• Deliver direct instruction and academic interventions for resource students
• Collaborate with general education teachers to provide push-in support and facilitate inclusion
• Develop, modify, and implement IEPs for each student on your caseload
• Maintain detailed records of student progress and communicate regularly with families and staff
• Support students’ social-emotional growth through targeted interventions
