Certified 3rd Grade Special Education Teacher in Waynesville, NC

This contract opportunity focuses on delivering special education services to a small group of 2nd and 3rd graders, with a specialized emphasis on adapted curriculum and intensive intervention.

You will work in a collaborative setting, supported by two dedicated teaching assistants, in a classroom of approximately 10 students. Your expertise in adapting lessons and interventions will help each student achieve their unique milestones.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

• Valid state teaching license with Special Education Certification
• Experience teaching 2nd or 3rd grade students preferred
• Background in implementing adapted curriculum and intensive intervention strategies
• Passion for working with students who have unique learning needs
• Strong classroom management and collaborative skills

Responsibilities:

• Develop and modify curriculum tailored to individual student needs, focusing on intensive intervention and adapted instruction
• Assess student progress regularly, using data to inform instructional adjustments
• Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment—both academically and emotionally
• Collaborate with teaching assistants, related service providers, and families to support each child’s educational goals
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation according to school and district requirements
• Participate in IEP meetings, staff development, and ongoing professional growth opportunities
