Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting students as a Special Education Teacher for a full-time maternity leave assignment. This position covers late September through the end of December and is based onsite. You will be primarily serving middle school students in grades 6 through 8 in a resource room setting, along with some co-teaching responsibilities. The caseload manages approximately 20 students, focusing on individualized support and collaborative instruction.
Essential Qualifications:
- Valid Connecticut Special Education (SPED) Teaching License
- Previous experience teaching special education at the middle school level preferred
- Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation
- Proficiency in differentiating instruction for diverse learners
- Effective communication and collaboration skills with multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to manage time efficiently and adapt to changing needs
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction and academic support to students in a 6-8th grade resource room
- Team up with general education teachers for co-teaching in inclusive classrooms
- Oversee IEPs for a caseload of roughly 20 students, ensuring compliance and best practices
- Monitor student progress, adjusting strategies to maximize learning outcomes
- Participate in team meetings, parent conferences, and professional development
- Provide classroom accommodations, modifications, and behavioral interventions as needed
