Step into an engaging contract opportunity supporting young adults as they transition into independent living and the workforce. This specialized role is designed for Special Education Teachers enthusiastic about fostering growth in students aged 18-22 through tailored transition programs. With a small caseload of 7-8 students, the focus is on practical life skills—such as cooking, cleaning, and job site training—as well as important administrative tasks such as coordinating with job coaches and paraprofessionals.

Typical hours are Monday through Friday from 7:45 AM to 3:30 PM, with early release on select Wednesdays at 1:15 PM. The role emphasizes guiding and mentoring students, monitoring progress, and updating goals that support adulthood, such as managing finances and applying for employment. There will also be opportunities to attend a limited number of IEP meetings (seven to ten per year). Experience with the NextUp transition curriculum and a background in collaborating with the Department of Developmental Services and similar agencies is highly valued.

Key Qualifications:

  • Connecticut Special Education Endorsement
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent teaching experience
  • Demonstrated experience with young adult and transition services
  • Familiarity with Department of Developmental Services (DDS) and transition resources preferred
  • Comfortable in an administrative, student-centered guidance role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support transition-age students with vocational and daily life skills
  • Collaborate with job coaches and paraprofessionals to track and update student goals
  • Participate in IEP meetings as required
  • Utilize NextUp curriculum for instruction and planning
  • Encourage life skills such as financial literacy, job applications, and community engagement

This position offers an hourly pay range of $38 to $43, along with comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage and access to a 401(k) plan through Principal Financial.
